SHILLONG: Rongara-Siju constituency MLA Rophul S Marak has been accused that he is denying the people of his constituency in availing the MLA schemes for the current fiscal year.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, several voters in his constituency claimed that the local MLA was not accepting the applications forms of the MLA schemes.
“The MLA has rejected to accept the forms for the various schemes like Special Rural Work Programme (SRWP) which were submitted by the people of the constituency,” several voters said.
According to the voters, he (Marak) had instead filed an FIR against seven people who had gone to submit their applications in his residence on June 17. “The seven people were locked in the lock up in Nongalbibra police station for a night,” sources said.
When contacted, Marak refuted that he denied people of his constituency from availing MLA schemes. “This is a ploy of my opponent to tarnish my image,” Marak said.
According to him, supporters of his opponents were misleading the people by spreading news that there are many schemes available with the MLA. He also informed
that the supporters of his opponent are also issuing the forms of the schemes just to pressurize him.
“Every single day, there are sending 20 to 30 with the applications forms for the MLA schemes. With the MLA scheme is only Rs 1 crore in a year, it is impossible for him to help each and every individual,” Marak said. He also said that he has tried to implement the schemes for the development of the constituency.
“I bought four ambulances and donated 50 computers to the schools from my MLA schemes in the last fiscal year,” Rongara-Siju legislator said while adding that all the schemes were channelized through the Block Development Office.
While admitting that he filed an FIR with the police, he said that he had filed the FIR since he can no longer tolerate the tactics of his opponents to mentally harass and pressurize him by sending people to demand for the MLA schemes.
