SHILLONG: The two-day Under-19 Open Judo Competition ended on Saturday at the Indoor Sports Hall, JN Sports Complex, Polo.
Chief guest at the closing ceremony Kennedy C Khyriem, MLA and Parliamentary Secretary (Tourism, Arts & Culture), expressed his happiness that the office of the East Khasi Hills District Sports Officer and the Meghalaya Judo Association have tried to promote the sport through this tournament.
He told all participants to strive for greater improvements considering how well the fellow North East state of Manipur has done at the national and international arenas.
Khyriem also urged women to take up judo and other martial art forms for sport as well as for self defence.
Shilliang Umkhen Spiritual Judo Club emerged with most of the awards at the competition.
Others include SAI STC, Vilco Sec School Pynthorumkhrah, Good Shepherd Sec School Jongksha, BSF School Nongmynsong, OM Roy Memorial HSS Mawlai, Army Public School Laitkor and Roop Rekha HSS Jail Road
