SHILLONG: Medical Superintendent of Shillong Civil Hospital, Dr A Borthakur has sought explanation from all staff including doctors and nurses on duty on Saturday and Sunday on the cause of death of a 27-year-old woman from West Khasi Hills.

The family members of Bantilis Nongrum of Riangmang village near Mairang alleged on Sunday that the patient died due to the indifferent attitude of the hospital staff.

“I have given them three days’ time to submit their explanation,” Dr Borthakur said here on Tuesday adding that he would take a final call on the matter following the explanation.

Nongrum was admitted on Saturday after she complained of severe headache.

“It was only during the time of admission that the doctor examined her. I requested the nurses to inform the doctors of the deteriorating condition of my sister but was told that they (the doctors) are busy in the emergency ward,” Nongrum’s elder sister, Ailis Nongrum, told newsmen on Sunday.
