TURA: GNLA’s Chokpot area commander, Jangjang Sangma has claimed that the destruction of several of the outfit’s camps, the most recent one being at Durama Adugre, would not demoralize the proscribed militant group.

Reacting to comments made in a local Garo Daily by a surrendered GNLA militant, Mingran T Sangma that Sohan would rot and die old in the jungle, the Chokpot area commander said that there would be 100 more to take his place if that were to happen.

“So what if that happens? There will be 100 Sohans. Did GNLA collapse because our chairman Champion R Sangma was captured? GNLA will be there for 100 years more and no force can defeat Garo people. GNLA is in the people, in the police and in every department. Even Mingran is still a part of the GNLA…,” said the GNLA leader.

He stated that the insincerity of the police personnel in disposing of their duties was understandable and alleged that most of the policemen do not even submit the arms and ammunition recovered through operations to the department.

“What has happened to two 32mm pistols, a 9mm country made pistol, one Bereta pistol, 4 AK magazines, Rs 1,20,000/-, one hand grenade and 3 walkie talkies. Mingran is in the habit of keeping such items for himself,” Jangjang alleged without specifying when the recoveries were made.
