MeECL staff to the rescue

SHILLONG: MeECL staff was kept busy all day long on Monday as they went on restoring electricity in areas affected by high speed winds here.
As per available information, there was disruption of power in majority of the localities across the city on Monday as trees fell on electric wires. A senior official of the MeECL informed that the worst affected areas were Laitumkhrah, Malki, Nongthymmai, Mawlai, Oakland, Laban, Kench’s Trace, Keating Road and Polo.
“We have been able to restore power in almost all the affected areas,” the senior official said even as he applauded the staff for their services on Monday.
He said that power supply was disrupted in Laitumkhrah, Nongthymmai and Malki after trees fell on the high tension line near Assam Auto Agency.
“There was disruption of power even in Ganesh Das Hospital due to a similar reason,” the official added.
He, however, said that the department faced a major problem in some of the sub stations due to shortage of linesmen. “It was due to shortage of manpower that there was delay in restoration of power in some of the areas,” the official said.
