SHILLONG: A senior leader of proscribed HNLC Phyranilang Swer, who was arrested from Kolkata earlier this year, has been placed under Meghalaya Preventive Detention Act (MPDA) for his alleged involvement in criminal activities in the past and for maintaining links with outlawed militant organization.

The East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal passed the order to book Swer under MPDA on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, a local court here had granted him bail in a case in which he was arrested from a hotel in Kolkata in April this year along with an aide.

According to Vivek Syiem, SP (City), three to four cases have been registered against him.
