2 teenagers hurt in cross-fire between police and GNLA

TURA: Two teenagers in a village in North Garo Hills District sustained bullet injuries during a crossfire between police and GNLA militants early Friday morning.
The incident occurred when a group of armed militants holed up in Jogogre village exchanged fire with SWAT commandos who raided their hideout at4:30 AM.
Police commandos had raided the village to apprehend senior GNLA militant identified as Rangdat who was camping in the area with four other armed militants.
The militant is the second in command of GNLA’s northern command and a close aide of area commander Pilliport D Shira.
The two teenagers, a girl and a boy, were hit in the leg when they tried to get away from the firing.
13-year-old Brijil M Sangma and Lakshish S Sangma (15) reportedly ran out of their homes as soon as they heard gunfire but unfortunately came in the line of firing. Brijil was hit on the lower leg while Lakshish received a bullet wound on his thigh.
“Both the victims are out of danger and doctors have told us that it was a flesh wound and the bullet had exited the body,” informed district police chief JFK Marak who paid a visit to the teenagers at Goalpara civil hospital where they were rushed for medical treatment by police.
Police retrieved a 7.65 pistol with four live rounds and one empty case from the site of the encounter after a search of the area.
