NDA govt fully committed to welfare of armymen: Gowda

Bangalore: The People of Karnataka on Saturday paid rich tributes to war heros who laid down their lives while guarding the Indian borders, in a series of thanks giving ceremonies, while celebrations of the country’s victory over Pakistan was celebrated on ‘Kargil Divas’ across the state.
Speaking at the War Memorial in the city, Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda said the NDA government was fully committed ensure the welfare of defence personnel and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go a ‘step ahead’ emulating former prime minister A B Vajpayee and former defence minister late George Fernandes.
‘We have seen how committed was Mr Vajpayee when he was the prime minister of the country to safeguard the interests of the defence personnel, while Mr Fernandes went to conflict zones to ooze confidence among army men when he was the defence minister.
‘Mr Modi will go a step further and ensure that our heroes in the three defence arms are given their due for their best services that cannot be measured. The NDA government is committed provide best facilities to the defence personnel and ensure better wages, pensions and other facilities. This was reflected in the recent Union budget,’ he said.
He said the country remembering its win in Kargil should further the confidence of its 60 crore youth to contribute more for the nation.
Legislative Council member Capt (rtd) Ganesh Karanik said as many as 527 brave soldiers had laid down their lives for the country in Kargil War and this was the time to pay them rich tributes.
Meanwhile, chief minister Siddaramaiah, who placed a wreath atthe war memorial in the city said the victory at Kargil War should enthuse more youth to join the Indian Army.
‘We need to educate children the importance of inculcating national pride and place the soldiers who died fighting for mother land in their hearts’. (IANS)
