Police Dept seeks Rs 10 cr for bullet proof vehicles

SHILLONG: The Home (Police) department has sought Rs 10 crore from the North Eastern Council (NEC) for procurement of the bullet proof vehicles.

“The proposal presently is lying with the State Planning department,” the State police chief PJ Hanaman said on Saturday.

He said that the bullet proof vehicles which are at the disposal of the State police at present have become too old and need urgent repair.

“Maximum of these vehicles are in Garo Hills,” he said.On bullet proof jacket, he said that the same had been provided to the personnel stationed at Garo Hills. “The personnel cannot always use the bullet proof jackets since it is too heavy,” Hanaman said adding that the department would have to purchase lighter bullet proof jackets in bulk.
