BSNL to install 23 more towers in Jaintia Hills

JOWAI: BSNL will install 23 more towers (BTS) in Jaintia Hills to ensure full network cover to the whole of East and West Jaintia Hlls.

Speaking to The Shillong Times, BSNL Senior General Manager, Meghalaya Telecom District, John Chrisostom, informed that the Phase-7 project for expansion of Mobile Network for Jaintia Hills has already started.

Under this project, 3G facilities will be provided to BSNL subscribers in Rymbai area, Byndihati, Ladrymbai, Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills. Mihmyntdu, Phramer in West Jaintia Hills,” he said, adding that 3G facilities in Mukhla Mission and Ummulong have been already been provided.

The BSNL Senior GM also informed that Wireless Internet (Wimax) in Ummulong areas and Amlarem areas will be provided within two months and in Lumshnong and Umkiang areas within a month.

When asked about non-availability of BSNL Network in Umkiang area, John said, “Umkiang areas have frequent power failure and we have installed a generator but the machine cannot be running for 24 hours, therefore, people in the area are facing network problems.

“We have purchased a transformer worth lakhs of rupees but the MeECL keep on delaying to provide us with good electricity supply for better network service to the people,” he added.

The top official of the BSNL in Meghalaya has also launched a One-Stop outlet in Ladthadlaboh Jowai for the benefit of the BSNL Mobile phone subscribers, BSNL Internet users in Jaintia HIlls. Under the Ladthadlaboh Outlet there are around 240 retailers.
