Manipuri man attacked in Gurgaon, one detained
Gurgaon: A man was detained for attacking a Manipuri man here Sunday night, police said Monday. Soizamuam, 39, and a cab driver, was attacked Sunday night by two brothers who were his neighbours. The victim, who lives with his wife on rent in Nathupur village on the Gurgaon-Mehrauli border, had some differences with brothers Ajit (29) and Sujit (27) — his neighbouring tenants. They had earlier fought over trivial issues. Sunday night, Soizamuam and Sujit had a scuffle in which the latter was injured. Both were allegedly drunk. “When Ajit learnt about the fight, the brothers attacked Soizamuam in his house,” police officer Sanjay Kumar told IANS. Soizamuam suffered a head injury and was admitted to a private hospital with Sujit who was later discharged. Police then detained Sujit who is also a taxi driver. A case was registered against the duo for attacking Soizamuam in his house, threatening him with dire consequences and common intent.(IANS)
Scrap dealer dies as defunct bomb goes off
Itanagar: A man was killed while trying to extract lead from a discarded bomb, earlier used by the forces, at Mandaling village, near Tawang district in Arunachal. Dorjee Tsering, a scrap dealer was trying to extract lead from the discarded object, probably believing it a defunct bomb, with a hammer when the object went off, Tawang police station officer in charge S Monpa informed over telephone on Tuesday. The object, suspected to be a misfired bomb from the firing range of Indian Army, was spotted from a nearby jungle where the scrap dealers often go to collect discarded ammunition of the forces, the officer said. Child, forced marriage of girls prevalent in Arunachal
Itanagar: Incidence of child and forced marriage of girls has come down in Arunachal Pradesh, but not to the desired level, the State Commission for Women has said. “Even though there is massive intervention to stop such marriages, these cases have not dropped to a desirable level in the state,” the commission’s chairperson, Gumri Ringu, said here on Monday. The maximum cases of child and forced marriages were reported in the Kurung Kumey and East Kameng districts, she said. The commission has settled 118 cases between September 2011 and July 17 of this year, most of them related to child and forced marriage, polygamy and domestic violence, she added. (PTI)
Two AP engineers abducted in Nagaland
Hyderabad: Two engineers from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh were kidnapped in Nagaland, according to official sources here on Tuesday. The engineers working in two private companies there, were abducted by miscreants on July 27 night. Other details were awaited. Meanwhile, the state government representative in Delhi K Rammohan Rao had contacted the Nagaland government and urged it to ensure safety and release of the abducted engineers. (UNI)
Nagaland observes World Hepatitis Day
Kohima: Nagaland observed World Hepatitis Day with State Legislative Assembly (NLA) Speaker Chotisuh Sazo urging the policy makers, health workers and public to think about Hepatitis-the silent killer. Addressing the World Hepatitis Day as the Chief Guest at Kohima Monday, Mr Sazo said, “The Day provides an opportunity to focus on specific action strengthening prevention, screening and control of viral hepatitis and its related diseases.” Addressing the occasion, Mr Sazo said Hepatitis was a highly contagious and easily transmitted through contaminated food and water, infected mother to child at the time of birth, unsafe sex, exposure to infective blood and other infected blood fluids. He said yet it was preventable and treatable and sometimes curable. Mr Sazo suggested that Nagaland needed to have a clear data in order to have the support of the Government as how many were infected and in need of treatment and how and where the patients could be treated with the cost involved. In his address on the UN position on Hepatitis-C, the UN of Hepatitis-C for drug users in India (UNODC) project coordinator Kunal Kishore said 67 per cent of the Hepatitis-C were from the drug using community. He also said once the demand for treatment shoots up, the prices and cost of the treatment were bound to decline and said awareness is very important to remain protected from the infection. (UNI)
13 positive cases of encephalitis viruses detected, 1 died in Arunachal
Itanagar: Thirteen positive cases of acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) or Japanese encephalitis (JE) have been detected following outbrak of Japanese encephalitis in different parts of Arunachal Pradesh. The presence of JE viruses were detected after examining of blood samples by using the NIV-Pune JE test kits at State General Hospital, here, from the period of July 20 to July 27. Out of which cases one JE virus infected patient from Daporijo has died on July 24 last, according to release by the director of Health service, Dr Kartik Nishing Tuesday. (PTI)
140 cases registered under NDPS Act in AP
Itanagar: A total of 140 cases involving 196 people were registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act between 2012 and 2014 in Arunachal Pradesh. Replying to a supplementary question raised by Kaling Moyong, MLA in the State Legislative Assembly here on Monday, state Home Minister Tanga Byaling informed that out of these cases, 75 cases were registered in insurgency infested Tirap and Changlang districts. Giving year-wise breakup of registered cases under the NDPS Act in the districts, Mr Byaling informed that 49 Indian nationals and two Myanmarese nationals were arrested in 2012, 105 Indians and lone Myanmarese national were arrested in 2013, taking the number to 39 till June this year. Replying to a supplementary question, the Home Minister said from 2012 to 2014, four Myanmarese nationals were arrested in Changlang district, while one Myanmar national was arrested in Tirap in 2013.(UNI)
