SHILLONG: The alleged nexus between Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and ANVC militants has again been raked up by the ANVC (B) in the wake of arrest of its 24 cadres by Tura police from Edenbari camp for their alleged role in the killing of migrant labourers.

The ANVC (B) also demanded the immediate and unconditional release of 24 cadres within 10 days and asserted that the Chief Minister should step down if the Government does not release the arrested cadres.

“Our demand is that the Chief Minister should resign from his post, because once we have worked hard under the guidance and order given by our ANVC founder member and Chairman Dilash Marak to elevate him to the post of Chief Minister and hence, he became the Chief Minister of Meghalaya”, Rangra Jagring S. Marak Assistant General Secretary and Special Intelligence Officer, ANVC (B) alleged in a statement issued to the media on Wednesday.

Earlier, ANVC-B’s self-styled commander-in-chief Mukosh Marak had alleged that he and another leader Rimpu Marak (Torik)-when they were still with ANVC- had carried out what they were ordered by the chairman of ANVC Dilash Marak to talk to Garo legislators to support the Government led by Mukul Sangma during a political crisis.

Mukosh had also claimed that Rimpu had met Mukul Sangma and subsequently Mukosh had called up Garo legislators for their support. Mukosh had also stated that the nexus was not between Rimpu and Mukul, but it was between Dilash and Mukul.

Reminding about the support of ANVC to Sangma, the ANVC (B) assistant general secretary Rangra Jagring S. Marak further said that since Mukul had nexus with ANVC, he owes to both ANVC and ANVC (B) cadres and added that now he is playing the game against ANVC-B and the Garo community. “We also urge all the NGOs to put pressure for the removal of Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi and SP, MK Singh as they are against the interest of the Garos”, the ANVC (B) cadres said.

The ANVC(B) further said that with the due respect to the initiative of the State and Centre Government, they are longing for the final peace settlement which was initiated last year when ANVC(B) Chairman ir Rimpu Marak and the General Secretary of ANVC Wanding K. Marak had signed the agreement. “However, the police are hunting to arrest or kill our Chairman Rimpu Marak and if Tura police continues to hunt our leader, we will not tolerate it anymore, the ANVC(B) added.
