Lions Club completes 50 years of service

SHILLONG: Lions Club of Shillong on its completion of 50 years of service to the society installed the new Board of Directors recently. Meghalaya Governor K.K. Paul was the chief guest on the occasion and the Installation Officer was K.K. Jhunjhunwala, former District Governor of the Club.

Lion Prabhu Chaudhary was installed as the new president, Lion Anita Nonghkhlaw as secretary and Lion Ashok Bajaj as treasurer of the Club for the year 2014-2015.

During the function it was mentioned that the Lions Club of Shillong in the past year undertook projects such as the construction of the Lions Eye Vision cum Vocational service centre which is stipulated to be completed within a month’s time.

Governor K.K. Paul lauded the Lions Club of Shillong and congratulated the Club for completing 50 years.

He also asked the Club to associate with the Government of Meghalaya in taking effective measures to negate the high school dropout rate in Meghalaya.

He also suggested the Lions Club of Shillong to start a mini mobile health emergency unit consisting of doctors and emergency medical kit which could travel to far and remote places within the State and provide medical help to the people.

The Governor further demanded that Lions Club of Shillong should be instrumental in creating better traffic sense in the city and maintain traffic rotary of Shillong and should adopt streets by appointing Safai Karamcharis to maintain cleanliness and also with growing flowers at various traffic points to beautify the city, and also to arrange scholarship to needy students at primary stage to encourage them.
