Intellectual Property Facilitation Centre (IPFC) set up in Guwahati
Guwahati: FICCI has set up an Intellectual Property Facilitation Centre (IPFC) at Guwahati with support from the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises(MSME), Government of India, a press release sent to the Shillong Times informed on Wednesday. An FICCI statement said the objective of the Centre was to facilitate MSMEs to identify, protect, maintain, enforce and commercialize their intellectual property. The key activities of this cell will be to assist innovators in addressing their IPR requirements, the release informed. Majority of the countries have a strong IPR regime to power their industries. Therefore, it is for MSMEs in India also to make efforts to reap the benefits accruing from IPR system and survive the competition at international market. “It is seen that thousands of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in India are losing millions in revenues due to lack of awareness about IPRs” said the FICCI statement. In India the small industries fail to protect their IP assets due to lack of funds and lack of awareness on IP. The scenario is no better in the North East and therefore explained why IPR was needed here. “Keeping the above context in view the IPFC in Guwahati has been set up and it is well-equipped to offer quality services in all areas of Intellectual Property Rights” says FICCI.
