SHILLONG: As part of the ‘Safe Secure Shillong’ scheme, the State police has started installing CCTV cameras in 28 locations including main commercial hubs of the city.
“In the first phase, we are installing CCTVs cameras in the 28 prime locations of the city,” M Kharkrang, SP, East Khasi Hills told newsmen here on Thursday.
Besides the main commercial hubs, Kharkrang said that the CCTVs would be put up in the certain localities which they would not like to disclose. These 24×7 cameras will be installed at the top of six-meter tall towers.
“The Dorbar Shnong of the localities where the cameras will be put up have agreed to volunteer to take care on the safety and security of the equipments,” SP said.
Informing that Rs 3 crore have been earmarked for both Shillong and Tura, he said that Rs 2 crore has been sanctioned for Shillong alone.
“The installation work has already started. We are expecting that it will be completed within a month’s time,” Kharkrang said.
