Mizoram PHED employee dies while cleaning water tank
Aizawl: An employee of the Mizoram Public Health Engineering department died while cleaning a water tank at a place near the river Tlawng on the outskirts of the state capital, official sources said on Thursday. Rohmingthanga (47) was sucked inside a pipe while cleaning a water tank Wedesday night and died there, the sources said. Volunteers took a long time to take out the body of Rohmingthanga as he was firmly stuck inside the pipe used for Aizawl water supply. His body was found by some people this morning. (PTI)
Three militants killed, jawan injured in encounter
Imphal: Three militants of Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) were killed and a jawan of Assam Rifles was injured during an encounter in Tamenglong district on Thursday. The encounter took place in the wee hours on Thursday after the 13th Assam Rifles personnel were attacked by the militants at Nungkao area, about 112 KM north-west of here, an official report said. The personnel were patrolling the area to drive out ZUF militants, the report said, adding, the three militants were killed on the spot. An Assam Rifles jawan was also injured, the report said. The encounter between the newly set-up militant outfit and the security personnel lasted for more than three hours. The rest of the militants escaped through nearby thick hilly jungles, it said. The injured jawan was brought here for treatment. (PTI)
ICMR finds Tripura dengue prone
Agartala: Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) warned Tripura to strengthen preventive mechanism to fight against Dengue besides, Japanese encephalitis and malaria, after detection of Dengue carrier recently in a few locations. An ICMR statement said entomologists found a mosquito specie, the carrier of dengue virus in the state and alerted that there is a strong possibility of Dengue presence among the inhabitants. Following ICMR’s warning, the state health department has sent requisition to National Vector Borne Disease Control Program (NBVDCP) for immediate dispatch of Dengue diagnostic kits to the state and special arrangement has been made in Micro-biology unit in Agartala Govt Medical College. The authority however, advised the people of Tripura to stay away from mosquito bite and if anyone suffers from fever, he/she should immediately consult doctor and not take any medicine without proper diagnosis and medication. Ministry of Health has sent a specialist from Delhi with the report of outbreak of Japanese encephalitis in the state and she has been visiting the entire south and eastern parts of the state for past two days. Hollongi airport work approved by Civil Aviation ministry: CM
Itanagar: Construction of the greenfield airport at Hollongi near here has been approved in principle by the Union Civil Aviation ministry, the Assembly was informed on Thursday. Responding to a question raised by Opposition Leader Tamiyo Taga during Question Hour, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki informed that the process to start construction of the project had already begun. Tuki said, in the beginning the site for the proposed airport project was selected at Karsingsha. However, after the visit of the technical expert committee of the Civil Aviation ministry and the Airport Authority of India (AAI), Hollongi under Balijan circle was finalised. “The state government cannot select the site technically. It is selected by the AAI after assessing all technical aspects,” the chief minister said in response to a supplementary. He said, the process of land acquisition and payment of compensation was in the final stage and construction of boundary wall and security fencing would be started soon. (PTI)
Arunachal District Planning Committee amendment bill passed
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Assembly passed the Arunachal Pradesh District Planning Committee (Amendment)Bill, 2014 on Thursday, paving way for panchayats and municipalities to participate in the planning process in the districts. The bill, passed through voice vote, was introduced in the House on July 25 by Town Planning and Urban Local Bodies Minister Pema Khandu and is aimed at constituting the district planning committee and consolidating the plan prepared by the panchayats and municipalities in the districts. “The Bill aims at preparing five-year prospective plan and draft development plan for the districts,” Khandu said making a statement in the House on Thursday. He said there was proposal in the bill to make zila parishads chairperson the chairperson of district planning committees in place of deputy commissioners. (PTI)
