Kumar returns to Meghalaya as IG, BSF

SHILLONG: Sudesh Kumar, who had served as Inspector General, BSF (Meghalaya frontier) on two occasions has been appointed to the post for the third time.

The officer had served in Meghalaya Frontier as Inspector General from June 25, 2011 to October 26, 2011 and later again from February 1, 2012 to August 1, 2013. The fresh appointment of Kumar will be effective from August 1. The reason for his appointment for the third time is not known.

A BSF statement on Friday said that Kumar, who is a 1987 batch Kerala Cadre IPS Officer, had worked in BSF as IG (Prov) Delhi, BSF HQr.

The officer also has had assignments in UN as “Police Commissioner” in Congo. He has been awarded President Police Medal for Meritorious Service in the year 2003.

Kumar, after taking over charge as IG of Meghalaya Ftr has emphasized on need for effective border management in order to prevent crimes on international border, maintaining cordial relations with the border population, respecting human rights, and welfare of troops, the BSF statement added.
