State inter school and college karate tournament concludes

Shillong:The 22nd Inter School & 5th Inter College Karate Tournament, organised by the All Meghalaya Karate-do Association and the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, concluded here on Sunday with the felicitation of all the winners in different categories.

The closing ceremony was presided over by Banteidor Lyngdoh, MDC Mawkynrew Constituency as the chief guest while Ransom Sutnga was the guest of honour.

The tournament witnessed a total participation of 375 students from 51 different schools and 8 different colleges.

In the inter-school competition KC Secondary School was adjudged the team champion in both the boys and the girls category.

In the junior category, Miki Phawa of KC Secondary School and Izadaphishisha Khongwar of St. Mary’s Montessori School won the best karateka boy and best karateka girl, respectively while, in the senior category, Lumborlang L Mawphlang of Church of God HS School and Elisheba Khongwar of Pine Mount School were declared the best karateka boy and girl , respectively.

Similarly, in the inter-college competition, Dameshwa Rani of St. Anthony’s College and Ronald L Nonglait of Umshyrpi College won the Men Below 50kg and 55 kg Kumite, respectively and Amesa Sawian of St. Edmund’s College and Saralin Rynghang of Lady Keane College won the women below 50kg and 55kg Kumite respectively.
