SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has directed the CMJ Foundation and CMJ University to appear before it on August 18 following a writ petition filed by 29 aggrieved students of the University.
As per the fresh notices issued on July 22, the High Court has directed the functionaries of the Foundation and the University including vice chancellor Chandra Mohan Jha, Board of Governor and Board of Management to appear before the court.
Informing about the petition, one of the petitioners, Yangman Konyak, said that the case is related to the funding of the fees the students had deposited for the academic session they had enrolled for before the CMJ University was closed down and de-recognized by the State Government.
It may be mentioned that Jha and other functionaries of the University have been arrested and the case is pending with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the State Police.
Earlier on June 5 last, the State Cabinet had decided to dissolve the CMJ University in compliance with the Supreme Court ruling.
Earlier on March 31, the State Education department had decided to dissolve CMJ University indicating that the degrees awarded by the University have now become null and void.
