Reschedule
A workshop on ‘Evaluation and Paper Setting’ organized by the Examination Department, NEHU, scheduled from August 6-8 has been re-scheduled to August 7-9. The inaugural programme will now be held on August 7 at 9:30 am at the Multi-use Convention Hall, NEHU, Shillong.
Training
An integrated training programme on ethical governance and public service is being organized by SIRD in collaboration with Meghalaya Institute of Governance and Initiative of Change, Panchgani, at Nongsder. The training, which will go on till August 29 is being organized for officials of the C&RD Blocks involved in rural areas to acquaint themselves with the current status and initiatives in rural areas.
Unclaimed body
One patient Osni Biswa of Laban, who was admitted in Shillong Civil Hospital, expired on August 1. The relatives have been requested to collect the body from the hospital morgue within three days.
General council
The General Council of the Khasi Authors’ Society held on Monday resolved to observe the Foundation Day of the Society on September 11, 2014 as Literary Day. The General Council also elected its new office bearers including Dr. D.R.L. Nonglait as president, Kitbor W. Nongrum as vice-president, Phrikshon Kharshiiing as general secretary and Raphael Warjri as joint secretary, while Dr. K.D. Ramsiej is the treasurer.
Excise raid
The Excise staff of East Khasi Hills Dsitrict conducted raids in restaurants and stalls across the city and detected 62 cases with seizure of 456.6 litres of liquor and 264.930 litre of IMFL. 57 persons have been arrested in this connection.
JNU formed
The Jaintia National Union (JNU) was formed on August 1 with the motto: Tia Chaphrang Niaw Wasa (Onward Niaw Wasa). Niman Shadap is the president of the JNU, while Phamlis Dkhar is the vice president and Bishar Samayang is the general secretary.
New committee
Shree Rajasthani Durga Puja Samity, Shillong, has formed a new puja committee for 2014 with president Rohit Saraf, vice presidents Bimal Bajaj, Jagdish Mandawewala, Mahesh Kandoi, Nemichand Agarwal and Purshottamdas Chokhani, and secretary Santosh Chachan, among others. The Samity also decided to donate Rs.1 lakh to Shillong Gaushala for renovation and development work.
