SHILLONG: The Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Zenith Sangma on Monday took a dig at some doctors, though in a lighter vain, for not serving the rural poor by saying that “they have turned out to be just salary drawing doctors.”
Inaugurating the week-long inter-district youth exchange programme held at Tura, Sangma said in a lighter note, referring to a few doctors posted in rural areas as “salary drawing doctors”, as they have failed to look into the interest of the poor patients.
“Many have chosen this profession out of compulsion, which is reflected in their work culture. So, it is important that youth are conscious enough to select their profession by choice and not default,” he added
Sangma further asked the youth to select their profession by choice and not by default at the gathering, which comprised of 250 youth drawn from eleven districts of the state.
“Youth should make effort to overcome their challenges and measure their own potentials. It is your sheer perseverance that will decide your future. Be prepared for all obstacles to win your goal”, Sangma said.
On Chief Minister’s Career Guidance and skill development programme, the Youth Affairs minister stressed on the need for the youth to be focused about their goals and principles in life.
The programme was organized by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), Meghalaya Zone.
