Dissidence in Meghalaya Cong?

New Delhi: Dissidence seems to have resurfaced in Meghalaya Congress as the MPCC chief DD Lapang and dissident minister Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday met party supremo Sonia Gandhi to apprise her about the state of affairs in the state.

While Lapang arrived here last week, Prestone joined him later. A few more dissident MLAs are arriving here on Tuesday night and Wednesday, party sources said.

It is not known what transpired in the meeting but the duo stated to have conveyed to Gandhi about the discontentment in the party and in the Government, which has been brewing ever since the last Lok Sabha polls. Gandhi was also informed about demand by some legislators for removal of Mukul Sangma as Chief Minister.

Prior to meeting Gandhi, both Lapang and Prestone met Shillong MP Vincent H Pala. The problem within Meghalaya Congress started with the selection of Pala as the candidate for Shillong Sabha seat.

Gandhi is understood to have told the duo that it is the duty of the PCC president to apprise the AICC about the state of affairs within the party and the government.

While Lapang and others are staying back at the national capital, the Chief Minister left for Shillong on Tuesday afternoon.
