SHILLONG: The Special Court (rape cases) Nongstoin recently awarded Johny Nongtynger (a cook in the State police) five years of rigorous imprisonment plus a fine for his involvement in the rape and attempted murder of a woman at Shahlang, West Khasi Hills on December 7, 2007.

When contacted, Special Judge Thomas Diengdoh, who had passed the sentence, said the convict was awarded this punishment after it was proven that he was involved in the rape and attempted murder of the victim.

“The accused has been booked under various sections of the IPC. He will have to serve five years of rigorous imprisonment plus a fine,” he said.

Interestingly, the victim is unaware of the court’s judgement.

“It is good that the accused was punished for his crime,” the victim said after being informed of the judgement.

While recalling the horrifying episode, the victim said that Johny had forcefully dragged her from the roadside to his quarter at Shallang outpost and raped her after which he attempted to eliminate her. Luckily I escaped,” she said, while adding that she had to undergo treatment for two months at Ganesh Das Hospital, Shillong.

“Till now the incident is still fresh in my memory,” she added.
