SHILLONG: Police have arrested three persons for allegedly hijacking a local taxi and threatening its driver.
East Khasi Hills SP M. Kharkrang on Wednesday said that the incident happened on Tuesday afternoon when three boys hired a local taxi (ML-05F-6439) driven by one Bijoy Biswa from Polo Bazar to Diengpasoh.
However, on reaching Mawkasiang, they placed a Khukri on the driver’s throat and attempted to carjack the vehicle but the driver managed to escape.
The miscreants escaped with the vehicle but were apprehended a short while later by  Police at Mawpdang village.
The arrested persons have been identified as Tyngshainbor Nongbsap (26), Rocky Shylla (27) and Edison Nongrum (28).
Kharkrang said that their intention to carjack the vehicle was probably to commit a crime or to sell its parts.
SP (City) Vivek Syiem informed that Rocky Shylla had been arrested earlier on charges of raping a minor and prior to that had been arrested for alleged burglary and theft.
