State level badminton championship gets underway in Ri Bhoi

NONGPOH: The 32nd State Level Badminton Championship hosted by the Ri Bhoi Badminton Association (RBBA) under the aegis of Meghalaya State Badminton Association (MSBA), got underway at the NSCA Indoor Stadium here on Thursday.

The championship was inaugurated by Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Pooja Pandey in the presence of Meghalaya State Commission for Resource Mobilization, MG Kharshanlor, District Sports Officer, PM Marbaniang, MSBA secretary Rajesh Kamal, RBBA president, Ferdinald Kharkamni among others.

As many as 285 participants from Ri Bhoi, East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills, and West Garo Hills will take part in the three-day event.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Pandey urged the players to exhibit the spirit of true sportsmanship during the championship and also lauded the RBBA for hosting the championship which will go a long way in promoting the game in the district.

The championship is supported by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs and the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi.
