‘Blame mining ban, not Mukul for GH unrest’

SHILLONG: Ampareen Lyngdoh on Friday came down hard on critics of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma saying that the Chief Minister alone should not be blamed for the dismal law and order situation and the growth of militancy in Garo Hills.

“It is a collective responsibility to address the issue and we all including the people are responsible for this,” Ampareen told newspersons.

Providing reason for the sudden spurt in militant activities in Garo Hills, Ampareen said, “The developments in the wake of displacement of people due to the ban on coal mining is one of the reasons for the worsening law and order situation in Garo Hills.”

According to Ampareen, law and order situation cannot be the reason for seeking change in leadership. Besides, the Chief Minister is on the right track and is frequently available in Garo Hills to attend to the various needs of the people, she added.
