SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills emerged as the best team in the two-day XIIth Meghalaya State Wushu Championship that concluded at the Indoor Sports Hall, Polo here on Saturday.
Ri Bhoi finished runners-up in the event. Milancius Malai from Ri Bhoi was adjudged the ‘Best Meghalaya Wushu Fighter’ in the senior category while Enifer Nongkynrih of East Khasi Hills bagged the honour in the junior category.
Addressing the gathering on the concluding day of the event, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Sanjay Goyal expressed happiness that Wushu and other forms of martial arts have come up in the State. The DC added that it would be the role of the government to support events like these where the youth can expose their talent.
SP City, Vivek Syiem was elated to see the performance of female athletes who showcased their strength and technique in the ring.
“It will be better if girls come forward to take up martial arts for self defense,” he said.
Meanwhile, president of Meghalaya Wushu Association, Donny Ranee informed that Wushu will soon be introduced in other districts of Meghalaya.
