SHILLONG: Reacting to the Independence Day boycott called by militant outfit ASAK, the ANVC-B on Tuesday said that it was improper to call a bandh on Independence Day.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, ANVC-B said that a demand which is workable within the ambit of the Indian Constitution should not target the national celebrations.

“Genuine organisations would never boycott Independence Day to highlight their grievances and demands unless they are backed by ‘smart people’ who aim to disrupt the peace and integrity of the State,” ANVC-B said.

“In time they will even challenge our sovereignty and demand cessation from the State. Their motives are understandable through their stand and action; rest assured, they would keep on coming back if they are not nipped in the bud,” the statement said.

“Our State is a crucial corridor for terror activities. It has come to our understanding that there is a plan to work under a conglomeration for a ‘certain goal’. That goal obviously remains the same except that everything is being camouflaged into political bodies. It is certain that help is coming from within and outside. Such is the plan of the ‘smart minds’ who plan to uproot our integrity. GNLA is quiet for a good reason but fact remains that somebody is already in the making of another Sohan,” the statement added.

The ANVC-B stated that the call to boycott Independence Day in Garo Hills was an anti-national act which is of serious concern and said that it was not surprising that ASAK was following the GNLA trend.
