Shillong: A late onslaught by Shillong United ensured them a comprehensive 5-1 First Division win against minnows Nongkrem on Wednesday at Polo Grounds.

Loken Meitei scored two in addition to other useful contributions after Nongkrem showed some amount of threat in the second half.

Shillong United started off briskly, scoring in the opening minute of the match through Sonam Sherpa.

Loken Meitei doubled the lead in the 25th minute to place his side in a strong position which was, however, threatened in the 61st minute when Nongkrem’s I Warshong pulled one back to bring down the deficit, but three goals in a span of seven minutes by Shillong United left them with no chance.

K Tajuddin scored Shillong United’s third goal in the 83rd minute before Sushil Meitei lobbed a shot over the keeper in the 87th minute.

Loken eventually finished it off with a 90thminute placement into the nets to make it 5-1.

Meanwhile, in a Third Division match, Laitkor hammered Mawklot 5-0 courtesy a hat trick by S Mynsong (24, 57, & 67).

S Kharkongor scored the opening goal in the 18th minute while R Kharkongor scored one in the 44th minute.
