‘Individuals misusing outfit’s name to make money’
SHILLONG: Taking exception to misuse of the outfit’s name for monetary benefits by certain individuals, general secretary of the proscribed militant outfit Cheristerfield Thangkhiew has tendered an open invitation to the youth of the State to join the outfit.
“Rather than misusing the name of the outfit, we have an offer to the youth to come and join the outfit,” Thangkhiew said in a statement issued on the occasion of the outfit’s 27th raising day on Thursday.
He said the outfit was aware that many unemployed youth were misusing the name of the outfit in order to make money. “What is worse is that police have tagged them as HNLC cadres despite knowing that they are not connected with the outfit,” Thangkhiew said.
He also observed that the government’s failure to provide employment to the youth have rendered several boys and girls jobless despite being educated. “The Government seems to have no solution to address the unemployment problem. The sad part is that the leaders of the State are more concerned about their wife and children and not at all concerned about addressing the frustration of the majority of the youth,” he said.
Despite tall promises by the Union Government, the State remains under-developed in terms of road infrastructure and other developmental aspects.
Thangkhiew extended his best wishes to the cadres, their family members and the Khasi indigenous tribes on the 27th raising day of the outfit that was floated on August 14, 1987.
