State to participate in Special Olympics Bharat football event

NONGPOH: The Lyntijam Welfare & Development Association (LJWDA) through its special school will represent the State in the upcoming Unified Football Championship which will be organized by the Special Olympics Bharat at Madras Medical College and Veterinary College ground in Chennai  from August 24 to 28.
The LJWDA, which is an organization that has been working for the welfare of people with disabilities in the state for the last 10 years, runs a special school for disabled children.
LJWDA president, Sumarlang Swer said that the Unified Football Championship is being primarily organised to promote social inclusion and bring people with or without intellectual disabilities on the same platform.
“It is inspired by a simple principle–training and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding,” Swer said.
The selected athletes who will represent Meghalaya in the championship are Wanpher Syiem, Kyntiewborlang Ryntathiang, Rahul Teron, Titus Pamshong, Paiabaron Suting, Ialam Ryntathiang and Jeswel Umlong. The Meghalaya contingent will be led by Swer as the coach and escorting official, Eric Ranee.
