SHILLONG: The CSWO on Tuesday asked Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh to take the advice of the Advocate General of the State before attempting to interpret any order of the Courts.
CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said that the Minister’s interpretation of the order of the High Court of Meghalaya, with regards to high rise buildings, mentioning only residential buildings and not commercial buildings is confusing and could be misleading.
According to Kharshiing, for the general public the threat will be from any building whether it is commercial or residential and no where can one guarantee that a commercial building will not collapse since Meghalaya, according to the Indian Seismic Zoning Map, falls under Seismic Zone V, which is dangerous.
She said that even such maps are looked into before any construction is done to check the level of seismology in any particular area and she added that the standard building norms of G+3 should be adhered to and the Government should take more time in addressing more pressing needs of the common man.
