SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF), involved in manning the 443-kilometer long Indo-Bangla border in Meghalaya is facing various problems including logistical challenges while performing their duties.
However, the biggest problem troubling the BSF troopers in the Garo Hills sector is the menace of malaria which is at its peak during the rainy seasons.
BSF, Meghalaya Frontier IG Sudesh Kumar said that malaria poses a great challenge for BSF personnel in Garo Hill, even as he added that no case of malaria has been reported in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills sector.
Reacting to a query, he said 10-15 cases of malaria have been reported in Garo Hills.
BSF personnel deployed in Garo Hills are provided with medicine and are briefed on the signs and symptoms of malaria, he said. “We spray different kinds of disinfectants in the water bodies and all the Outposts along the border have been provided with anti-malaria kit,” he said.
The BSF has also distributed medicines to a dispensary run by the Missionary in Garo Hills for the benefit of the villagers.
