5 NDFB-S militants killed in encounter

Guwahati: Assam police on Wednesday served a serious blow to the rampaging Bodo tribe militant group, National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Sangbijit faction) or the NDFB-S, by eliminating five of its cadres in an encounter in Chirang district of Bodoland areas in the state.

Police informed that the NDFB-S militants were killed in an encounter with a team of police and Army personnel in the wee hours today at Lalmati jungle area under Runikhata police station in Chirang district of Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District Council (BTAD) areas.

Te joint team of the police and Army went to raid the hideout of the militants acting on a tip off.

The team started the journey at around 11-30 last night. Police recovered one AK-47 rifle, four pistols and five hand grenades from the slain militants.

The NDFB-S is one of the most active militant group in the state which is creating terror in interior areas of BTAD and along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh and Assam-Bhutan borders in northern Assam trough rampant extortion, abduction and occasional attacks on police forces.
