Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh BJP on Thursday alleged that central funds do not reach people, urging the Centre to intervene and ensure financial discipline in the state.

A delegation of the party led by state unit president Tai Tagak alleged in a memorandum to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley yesterday that corruption had been the hallmark of successive Congress governments in the state.

The party apprised the minister on “poor utilisation and gross misuse of the funds sanctioned and released from the central government for various development projects and welfare schemes in the state by the Nabam Tuki government,” an official release said on Thursday.

“Embezzlements and fraudulent diversions of the central funds had led the state to a precarious financial condition thereby hindering growth of the sensitive border state,” the memorandum said.

It further stated that funds meant for all central flagship schemes, central projects schemes, central sponsorship schemes and other central grants that go to state must not be accumulated with the state exchequer.

This money must go to the concerned heads of the departments and nodal agencies in order to minimise gross mismanagement and fraudulent diversions of funds to different heads, it said.

The memorandum also alleged that holistic objectives and guidelines of the Twelfth and Thirteenth Finance Commissions have not been followed in the expenditure and implementation of the important centrally sponsored schemes.

“Central funds sanctioned and released under the central flagship schemes have been misused by the state government.

The defective implementation of the schemes by the officials in various departments have also deprived the people of Arunachal Pradesh especially those included in the the target populations, from getting benefit of the schemes and the bonafide beneficiaries and they have been kept out from further participation,” it added.
