Mining activity banned at Smit

SHILLONG: The Additional District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills has restrained mining activity at Um-Iew-Maw U Sam village (Smit) without obtaining clearance from the competent authority.
The order said that the decision has been taken to safeguard the environment and was based on the reports of the Superintendent of Police that illegal mining activity was going on in the village.
The order comes into immediate effect and would remain in force until further notification.
The administration has also prohibited plying of all overloaded trucks over the BUG bridge 11/ 1 on Sohiong-Pariong road.
