Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to resign for a month during which a probe into the alleged poll rigging will be completed, even as 400 PTI protestors were booked for anti-government rallies and blocking traffic in Punjab province, media reported on Sunday.
Imran Khan made this demand Saturday after the third round of talks between the government and PTI faced a deadlock over the issue of Sharif’s resignation, the Nation reported.
Addressing supporters in Islamabad, Imran Khan reiterated his resolve to continue his sit-in in front of parliament till Sharif’s resignation and the initiation of new elections.
He said he would not let his party function till the government meets his latest demand.
He said Sharif could return to his office after 30 days if the judicial commission could not prove the allegations of rigging against him.
On Saturday, a group of PTI lawyers joined Imran Khan to protest against the government.
The PTI chief asked the lawyers to file petitions against the government’s illegal activities including blocking of roads.
Imran Khan once again asked supporters to gather in Islamabad Sunday, saying he would make an important speech.
Meanwhile, at least 400 PTI protestors were booked for staging anti-government rallies and blocking traffic for five hours in Faisalabad city of Punjab province.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was scheduled to organise a pro-government rally in Faisalabad Sunday.
The protests that began Aug 15 went on for the ninth day Sunday.(IANS)
