SHILLONG: The KSU has slammed a recent statement by Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Education, R.C. Laloo, wherein he had stated that he was reluctant to take charge of the department but had been forced to take the job.

“The statement is a clear reflection that the State Government is not keen to uplift the education system since it has given the responsibility of the department to a person (Laloo) who is not at all interested in the affairs of the department,” KSU education secretary Donald V Thabah said in a statement issued here, while terming the statement as irresponsible.

Thabah also stated that the minister’s lack of interest is solely responsible for the present state of affairs in the education system.

It is noteworthy that during the 35th coral jubilee celebration of Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA) on Friday last, the Education Minister had revealed that he was reluctant to take charge of the department and had even communicated his views on the matter to the Chief Minister. “But nobody listened to me and I had to take charge of the department, he had added.
