SHILLONG: The Non-Bonded Nurses Association of Meghalaya (NBNAM) on Monday expressed satisfaction that the State Government was taking steps to remove the disparity among the bonded and non-bonded nurses in the appointment to the various vacant posts for ANM, GNM and B.Sc nurses.
“We are happy that the Government has taken cognizance of our long pending demand,” NBNAM president M.H. Riang said after a meeting with Principal Secretary in charge Health and Family Welfare, Y. Tsering, here on Monday.
Riang informed that they have demanded equal treatment for both the non-bonded and bonded nurses.
“We have also demanded that there should be 50 per cent reservation for the non-bonded nurses in all vacancies in the Government health centres. We also want appointments to be made on the basis of seniority and experience,” the NHNAM president said.
While demanding that preference should be given to the indigenous population of the State while filling up the vacant posts, Riang said that they have also demanded categorization of the posts and pay scales of ANM, GNM and B.Sc nurses, among others.
Informing that the Association had submitted a representation to Health and Family Welfare Minister A.L. Hek in this regard on November 19, 2013, Riang said that he was hopeful that the Government would implement all their demands in letter and spirit.
