TURA: Two criminals suspected to be involved in the kidnapping of a sub inspector’s son for ransom from Mendipathar have been arrested by police in North Garo Hills.

District Superintendent of Police (SP), J F K Marak informed that they along with the SWAT Team launched an operation early Tuesday morning at Chipakram village in the district and arrested Eman Sangma and Mithun Sangma for their involvement in the kidnapping of one Tennybirth Ch Momin, the son of police Sub Inspector, C K Marak from Mendipathar.

He said that upon questioning the two revealed to police the modus operandi of the group leading to another operation at Kaldang Village in the same district located on the Assam-Meghalaya border, to capture group leader, Brinush Sangma alias Bryno, the mastermind in several kidnappings.

“As police approached the house in which the criminals were holed up they opened fire from inside. Police also retaliated but Bryno along with another accused identified as Digrade managed to escape,” Marak said.

The SP also informed that Bryno used to be the area commander of the ANVC (B). It was after he deserted the ANVC (B) that he formed his own group of criminals to carry out abductions to demand for ransom.

An inspection of the house occupied by the criminals led to police recovering two 7.65 calibre pistols with 10 live rounds, 3 mobile phones with 4 SIM Cards including incriminating documents pertaining to various abduction incidents.
