AMPATI/Tura/Nongstoin: Along with the rest of the country the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana was launched in the State on Thursday.
The scheme is aimed at eradicating financial untouchability by providing bank accounts to the poor. The national mission on financial inclusion aims to provide banking facilities to all households in the country.
In Tura, the scheme was launched at the Conference Hall of DRDA.
In Ampati, an awareness programme was organized at MFC, Deputy Commissioner’s Complex on Thursday afternoon.
The programme was organized by the State Bank of India in collaboration with the District Administration and Women’s Economic Empowerment through Financial Inclusion Scheme to create awareness among the people of the district on the need for every household to open bank accounts.
On the occasion, bank pass books for the new account holders of the district were also distributed by Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh and Additional Deputy Commissioner, PK Boro.
The massive financial inclusion project will give unbanked customers RuPay debit card, launched by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), along with free insurance cover and new bank account.
In Nongstoin, the Lead Bank Office, State Bank of India along with the local administration organized a function to launch the scheme.
The function was inaugurated by West Khasi Hills EAC, S Warjri.
