NONGSTOIN: Five NGOs from West Khasi Hills– West Khasi Students’ Union (WKSU), Western People Movement (WPM), Western Youth Federation (WYF), Western Youth Welfare Council (WYWC), Nongstoin Circle and Hynniewtrep People Social Organization (HPSO) West Khasi Hills District Unit– on Thursday served a 37-day ultimatum to the Government to repair the road between Nongstoin and Urkali failing which they would resort to agitation.

Spokesman of the five NGOs, Richard Nonglang, who is also the WYWC general secretary, said, “The deplorable condition of the road is causing severe inconvenience to the people including patients of the area as it also leads to Nongstoin Civil Hospital.”

PWD officials are all but mute spectators to the plight of the people, he added.

The NGOs also urged the contractor responsible for the construction of the road from Sohpian to Nongstoin to speed up the implementation of the project.
