TURA: The failure of the State Bank of India (SBI) to open some of its branches in Garo Hills in the aftermath of the kidnapping of one of its officials has led to grave inconveniences to customers especially in rural areas.

Several NGOs have demanded the immediate restoration of service by the public sector bank. The SBI branches that are yet to be opened since the indefinite strike called by it recently include the Rongram branch, Mendal branch, Selsella branch and the Zikzak branch among others.

Concerned NGOs from the areas have demanded immediate opening of the branches.

Meanwhile, the GSU, Zikzak Regional Unit has also submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma demanding the sanction of a security guard for the Zikzak SBI branch.
