TURA: GHADC MDC from Rochonpara, Dipul R. Marak, has written to the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner seeking his intervention for the re-opening of the State Bank of India (SBI), Selsella Branch which is yet to open up for business since it downed shutters a few weeks earlier in protest against and abduction of one of its officials.
In his letter to the Deputy Commissioner, the MDC informed that scores of consumers were facing a lot of problems due to the unavailability of banking services as the bank was the sole nationalized bank operating in the entire Selsella area.
“The Selsella C&RD Block is the largest as well as the busiest Block in West Garo Hills which covers Selsella, Rajabala and Phulbari areas fully and Dadenggre and Rangsakona partially. It along with the ICDS Office which implements hundreds of Central and State government schemes are being hampered due to the closure of this bank which is a setback to the development of this area,” Marak said.
He further informed that government and non-government LP School teachers as well as the common people including petty traders, beneficiaries of the Block and ICDS office for IAY, Old Age Pension and disable schemes among others were some of the worst sufferers due to the closure of the bank.
He urged the Deputy Commissioner to look into the matter and to provide adequate security personnel to the bank for resumption of services so as to ease the problems of the consumers of the region.
