UTM organises Natl Robotics c’ship in city

Disability sensitisation workshop held

SHILLONG: The Electronics and Communication Engineering Department of the University of Technology and Management (UTM), Shillong, organised a two-day National Robotics Championship which was inaugurated by Dr.Mukesh Saxena, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University on August 28-29 at Anton Hall, Laitumkhrah.
On the first day of the workshop, 120 students were taught how to program Robots, followed by how to implement sensors on the Robots, on day two.
Also, a competition was held and the winners and runners up groups from the Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science Engineering (Oil & Gas) respectively, have been selected to represent the North Eastern Zone at IIT, Mumbai in March, 2015.
A two-hour, Disability Sensitization Workshop was held for the faculty, staff and students of UTM on the second day.
Chief Guest Padmashri Bertha G. Dkhar addressed the students on disabilities and its challenges. “Society is yet to accept disabilities in its form,” she said, while speaking with the students, during a highly lively and interactive session.
To tackle the menace of ragging, UTM also organised an anti-ragging and ice breaking session between the seniors and juniors on August 30. J.R. Marak, Deputy Director, Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, was the chief guest on the occasion. He stressed on the unity and bonding of both the senior and junior students. He also emphasized on the need for sports in any educational institute.
The day’s programme culminated in a fresher’s evening with H.W.T. Syiem, former Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, being the chief guest. He spoke about the University still being in its nascent stage and the need for laying a strong foundation.
