32 drown as bus falls into flooded Jammu river

Jammu: As many as 32 people from a marriage party were killed Thursday when their bus fell into a swollen river in Rajouri district of Jammu region. Police said the bus carrying the marriage party went out of the driver’s control and plunged into the river near Noushera town of Rajouri district Thursday morning. “Six passengers have survived and 32 people have died,” the official said. Arrest warrant against rail minister’s son
Bangalore:  A court Thursday issued an arrest warrant against Karthik Gowda, son of Railway Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, in a rape and cheating case filed against him by a Kannada actress after he got engaged to another woman. “As Karthik failed to appear before our investigation team despite repeated summons since Aug 29 for questioning on the charges alleged against him by Maithreyi, the eighth additional city metropolitan magistrate issued the warrant to arrest him,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) T.R. Suresh told IANS here. (IANS)

47 people externed from Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar: Forty-seven people who were allegedly found involved in anti-social activities have been externed from the district for six months. The were externed by the district magistrate under Gunda Act here on Wednesday. On a police report, action has been taken against 47 people under the Gunda Act and preventive action taken against them for maintaining peace in the district, Additional District Magistrate Indermani Tripathi told reporters here today. Earlier, police reported to the district magistrate about their anti-social activities. (PTI)

Undertrial shot dead

Indore: An undertrial lodged at the Central Jail here was allegedly shot dead by another inmate today, police said. Prisoner Jitendra alias Jeetu (27) shot another inmate Arjun (35) around 9.30 AM, apparently with a country-made weapon, Indore Superintendent of Police O P Tripathi said. Arjun was immediately rushed to Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital where doctors declared him dead, he said. Both Jitendra and Arjun were undertrials in separate murder cases, he said. A probe has been launched into the incident and the prison administration is trying to find out how the prisoner managed to get the weapon inside the jail premises, the SP added. (PTI)
