SHILLONG: The State Education department has conferred the State Awards to 11 teachers during the 53rd Teachers’ Day celebration in recognition for their outstanding contribution towards the course of education in the State.
Besides the 11 State awardees, altogether 33 teachers were conferred with the District awards in the various districts.
The State Award recipients include Catherine Warjri, Head teacher, Malki Presbyterian School and D.G. Nongsiej, Headmaster, Mawsynram Government Upper Primary School in East Khasi Hills; Espigland Kurbah, Principal, Langtor Higher Secondary School in West Khasi Hills; S. Colonel Syiemlieh, Headmaster, Rangthong Christian Deficit UP School in South West Khasi Hills; Homeshwar Dutta, Assistant Teacher, Ri-Bhoi Presbyterian Higher Secondary School in Ri Bhoi; Cornelia Susngi, Assistant Teacher, Albin Lamare Secondary School, Nongbah, in West Jaintia Hills; Kraiwilson Marak, Headmaster, United Barringgre UP School in East Garo Hills; Lenin R Marak, Headmaster, Burny Hill Secondary School and Samiron Roy, Head Teacher, Government Bengali Boy’s LP School, Tura, in West Garo Hills; Fr. P.T. Thomas, Principal, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Baghmara, in East Garo Hills and Gratish K Sangma, Assistant Teacher, Don Bosco Secondary School, Mendal, in North Garo Hills.
Meanwhile, the District Awards from East Khasi Hills were conferred on Jutika Goswami Medhi, Principal, Laban Assamese Girls’ Secondary School, Shillong; Grace Melciarose Lyngdoh, Headmistress, Nongkrem Govt. UP School, Nongkrem and Pranati Deb, Head Teacher, Anath Ashram LP School, Shillong.
Special awards were also constituted to recognize the contribution of teachers in the field of special education. Shahnaz Lakyntiew Sohliya of Jyoti Sroat School, Shillong, was awarded in the category of Teacher teaching in special schools (differently abled), Alex K. Vanlalhmanghaia received the Best Scout Master Award while Matilda Lyngdoh the Bharat Guide Captain Award.
The State awardees were felicitated by Deputy Chief Minister in charge Education, R.C. Laloo and Principal Secretary, Education, P.K. Srivastava, at an official function held at Soso Tham Auditorium here.
