How do I become PM? student asks Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interaction with students from across the country on the occasion of Teachers Day, in an unprecedented first, was a big hit with the students.

“We learnt a lot through Prime Minister Modi’s speech. He taught us to conserve electricity at night, to preserve the environment and what I liked most about his speech was that he told us students to stop people from throwing litter on the roads,” said Nirmala Sharma, a student from a Delhi school who was present at the venue.

After the Prime Minister addressed students, he took questions from some young boys and girls. Some quizzers were in the audience at the Delhi auditorium where he gave his speech; others made their queries through video-conference.

A young boy from Imphal provoked a hearty Modi laugh when he asked, “How can I become the PM?”

“Start preparing for 2024 elections,” responded the man who swept the national election. Then, after a beat, “It also means till then I do not have any threat.”

Other questions put to Modi sought his thoughts on the move from Gandhinagar in Gujarat, where he was Chief Minister for over a decade.

“I have not got time to see Delhi. It is only home to office and office to home,” Modi replied.

Another young girl asked Modi about his reputation as a tough box. “People say you are like a Headmaster but you seem friendly. What kind of person are you?”

Modi’s answer: “Yes, I am a taskmaster. But it’s not like I don’t work hard myself.”

To a Delhi student who asked “Is politics a tough profession?” Modi responded, “Don’t think of politics as a profession…think of it as a chance to serve.” (Agencies)
