Guwahati: Ecologically sensitive zones in all eight Northeastern states will be demarcated soon, Union Minister of State (Independent charge) Prakash Javadekar said here on Saturday.

“Our government believes in facilitating simultaneous development and environment conservation. We will soon start demarcation of ecologically sensitive zones in the eight NE states and all the PCCFs of these states have been apprised about the plan,” he said, addressing a press conference here at the end of his two-day Assam visit.

Javadekar informed that the Union government would soon distribute about Rs 35,000 crore CAMPA (Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority) fund once the Supreme Court deliver the final verdict.

The Centre has formulated a policy under which money will be paid to states under an ambitious afforestation programme. (UNI)
