TURA: In view of the rising cases of abductions and killings in Garo Hills especially in remote villages the Garo Students’ Union (GSU) has appealed to the West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police to provide adequate security to all SBI branches in the district.
The Union pointed out that the staffs of SBI branches in remote parts of Garo Hills were feeling insecure to attend their respective workplaces in the absence of proper security.
“The union would like to request you on behalf of the citizens of Garo Hills to make the atmosphere conducive for banking by providing adequate security to all the banks in your district so that all the banks function normally once again and bring to an end the sufferings of all the affected people of Garo Hills,” the GSU said in its letter to the SP.
The appeal by the Union comes close on the heels of the complete closure of all SBI branches recently in Garo Hills in protest against the abduction of one of its officials from Gasuapara. The official, Subodh Kumar Mishra was kidnapped by suspected ASAK militants from the Dalu-Tura Road while he was returning home from work and kept in captivity for 16 days before he was finally released unharmed.
